After a crazy few months with work (both of us) and a very busy neighborhood Daniel and I were looking forward to a quiet week on the beach. Dauphin Island, Alabama is great for a quiet however long on the beach you need. It has the closest dog friendly beaches to Nashville, Tennessee. There is very little hubbub on the island, a few local stores and restaurants is all. On the side of the island opposite the beach there is a nature preserve, an Estuarium, a historic fort, and several nice parks. They also have a great bike lane the length of the island. It’s right up our ally.
I was having a stomach flare up before we left, and the salt air didn’t help for the first few days. I spent those on the couch watching and listening the the ocean from there. Luckily we had found an oceanfront beach house for the week.
When I finally recovered we had some wonderful adventures on the island. We had brought the tandem bike and Magnus’ pull behind down with us and we used them two days. We were very lucky that Skinners Ship & Shore had the parts we needed to patch our flat tire so we could enjoy the tandem.
We took a hike around Alligator lake, we saw some beautiful flowers and wildlife, but luckily no alligators.
